4월의 꽃들은 싱그러운 모습으로 봄을 채색합니다.

봄의 향연을 시작하는 대지의 큰 기운은 몸으로 마음으로

새로움을 열망합니다. 이 좋은 계절에 명품도시 창원에서

2010년 창원아시아미술제를 개최하게 되어 진심으로 축하드립니다.

중국, 일본 등 아시아 10개국 200여명의 작가들이

󰡒the Fantastic Gareden - 환상정원󰡓이라는 주제로

문화적 동질성과 시대정신을 교감하는 어울림의 소통문화가

아시아를 넘어 세계적인 가치로 빛나기를 기대합니다.

올해는 작가들과 일반 시민들이 함께 참여하는

󰡒아트마켓 & 문화벼룩시장󰡓을 개최하여 문화장터와 나눔의

정이 넘치는 축제가 되어 시민들과 더욱 가까워지는

아름다운 만남의 자리에 더욱 눈길이 갑니다.

이제, 창원아시아미술제는 도시통합에 걸 맞는 국제적인

미술제로서의 역할을 기대하면서 시민과 예술인들의 만남으로

어느 때 보다 즐겁고 행복한 축제가 될 것이라 믿습니다.

마지막으로 행사의 성공적인 개최를 위해 열과 성의를 다하신 백순공 대회장님을 비롯한 관계자 여러분의 노고와 열정에 깊은 감사의 말씀을 드립니다. 창원아시아미술제는 앞으로 경남미술인 모두의 자랑으로 더욱더 발전하기를 기원합니다.

Congratulatory Remarks                                                                                    

April, 2010

Flowers in April paint spring with radiant colors. The earth’s energy fills our mind and heart with freshness as spring launches its festival. I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the opening of the 2010 Changwon Asian Art Festival in the midst of such beautiful spring days.

This year’s festival features around 200 artists from 10 Asian nations including Korea, China, and Japan. Under the theme of “the Fantastic Garden,” they will share and exchange the cultural homogeneity and zeitgeist of contemporary Asia. My sincere hope is that such a culture of harmonious communication goes beyond the boundary of Asia, growing into a global value.

The participating artists and citizens are also encouraged to meet in the art market and the cultural flea market. These will serve as venues for them to share ideas and trade cultural items. I am particularly interested in these markets where the art festival could get closer to the public.

With the recent consolidation of three neighboring cities into Changwon, the art festival held here is expected to play the role of an international one, which fully corresponds to the size of the city. My firm belief is that the festival will be a pleasant and happy one where more chances are provided for the citizens and artists to meet in person than in any other festivals worldwide.

My utmost gratitude goes to Chief Organizer Paik Soon Gong and all the staff members for their untiring efforts and passion for the successful opening of the festival. I also hope Changwon Asian Art Festival develops further into one that everyone in the art scene of Gyeongsangnam-do can be proud of.
